Adult Acne: A Problem Beyond Your Teens: What Is Adult Acne

Dealing with pimples in your teens was bad enough – but pimples way after you’ve said goodbye to your school days? This is the adult acne that troubles many of us today.

CAUSES OF ADULT ACNE

In your teens, pimples tend to affect oilier skin like on the forehead and T-zone. However, adult acne occurs on the cheeks, mouth and even chin, in the drier U-zone. It can be caused by various other factors, including:

  • dehydrated skin
  • sleep deprivation
  • stress

When pores are blocked by dead skin cells, sebum and dirt, it can lead to pimple-causing bacteria multiplying and resulting in inflammation.

HOW DO I PREVENT ADULT ACNE?

  • When pimples appear, take extra care in cleansing and moisturizing your skin.
  • Try to limit chocolate, sugary items and fried, fatty foods as these can encourage pimples.
  • Constipation can be another cause of pimples, so remember to include more fiber in your diet.

If inflamed pimples are left alone, after it heals the area may still be stained by melanin pigments. Immediate treatment can prevent this, but prevention is much better than a cure!
